DSIP stands for delta sleep-inducing peptide. It is nine amino acids long and was first isolated in 1977 from blood drawn during deep sleep. Studies have measured brain wave patterns, sleep timing, and stress hormone response. After nearly fifty years of research, no one has identified which receptor it binds. The mechanism is still an open question.
