A reported range and statistical variability

A range describes the minimum and maximum observed values. Standard deviation summarizes dispersion around a mean under a specified calculation. They are different statistics and should be labeled accordingly.

For research use only. Not for human or veterinary use.

Neither resolves differences in sample selection or measurement methods. With a small or mixed archive, showing the individual records may be more informative than adding another summary statistic. State the included count whenever a statistic is used.
