Distinguishing a peptide fragment from its parent

A peptide fragment is defined by the part of the parent structure it contains and any additional modifications. A parent name used loosely is not enough to establish the fragment's identity.

Compare explicit sequences and source descriptions before linking literature or certificate data. Evidence for the parent should not be silently described as a direct test of a differently defined fragment.
