A certificate of analysis and an SDS have different jobs

A certificate of analysis reports analytical information for the material it describes. A safety data sheet serves a different documentation purpose and should not be treated as a substitute for sample-specific analytical results.

Keep the two documents clearly labeled in a purchasing record. The presence of an SDS does not fill a missing purity or identity result. Likewise, an analytical certificate should not be presented as a complete replacement for handling documentation.
