N-terminal peptide modifications
An N-terminal modification changes the chemistry at the amino end of a peptide. It belongs in the identity record alongside the residue sequence because the unmodified sequence alone does not describe the modified material.

A prefix such as an acetyl-group designation is chemically meaningful. A comparison should distinguish a modification from a different residue order, and it should not infer performance or stability merely from the presence of that prefix.
