Why retention time depends on the method

Retention time belongs to a chromatographic method, not just to a compound name. A different column or separation program can produce a different value for the same specified analyte.

Before treating a shift as an identity problem, compare the conditions supplied on both reports. If those details are missing, state that the values are not directly comparable. A single retention-time number should not become a universal reference value.
