Detection and quantitation answer different questions
A method may detect a signal without supporting a reliable quantitative value at that level. Detection and quantitation limits therefore describe different aspects of analytical performance.
For research use only. Not for human or veterinary use.
A result below a quantitation threshold should keep its qualifier. Do not place it into an ordinary numeric average as though it were an exact measured value. State the handling rule used for such observations.
Reading checklist
- Distinguish the two limits
- Preserve qualified observations
- Document statistical handling
